As a parent or parent to be of a young child, safety is likely to be one your first and foremost priorities. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that the question of ISOFIX anchor points is a large consideration - it’s the standard in child seat safety, taking away the risk of incorrectly installing a belt-secured seat and allowing for the widest range of compatible safety proven options.

It’s always easy to get caught up in confusing acronym mumbo jumbo - especially when it makes something so simple seem so complicated. Actually, ISOFIX isn’t an acronym at all, it’s simply the word that refers to the international standard method for fitting child seats safely into cars. It consists of two small and rigid rectangular anchors located at the base of the seat - just between the bottom cushion and backrest.

ISOFIX allows simple installation by slotting the connecter, located on the back of the ISOFIX compatible seat, onto the cars anchor point. So, with most cars manufactured in the last 10 years (and all new cars) featuring at least one ISOFIX point, most mums and dads with just one or two little ones will be set, but what if you have three?

We have some fantastic lease deals on popular family cars, with examples including the Peugeot 3008, Volvo XC90, BMW X5, and Land Rover Discovery that include three or more second row ISOFIX points. Whilst they might, for many it may not be ideal if they can’t actually accommodate three side-by-side child seats, and the difficult part arises when you have to find out which cars actually can. It’s not something manufacturers subsequently shout about after stating how many ISOFIX points are included.

There are plenty of cars which can fit three-plus ISOFIX seats, but many have to compromise by using a third row of seats which consequently hinders ease of installation and practicality by eating into your boot space. You’d imagine of all types of typical family cars it’d be your larger SUVs and MPVs which would be the most likely to cram in three child seats in line – but real-world testing suggests very few SUVs and Crossovers can, and being an MPV certainly does not give it an immediate pass.

So, we’ve decided to do some research and compile a list of the best cars to lease that can…

Audi Q7

With its spacious 7 seat cabin, plush interior, 5 Star Euro NCAP rating and a heavy dose of desirability to top it off, the big Audi Q7 certainly fits the bill for those looking for a premium family car that looks a bit more imposing than some of the other cars on this list. Unlike the first generation Q7 which only had ISOFIX points on the two outer second row seats, the newest Q7 has three and multiple sources and tests confirm that the Audi can actually fit three side-by-side. Thanks to all passenger seats featuring an ISOFIX anchor, the Audi still has room for even more easily and safely strapped in kids in the third row should you need. We have fantastic Audi leasing deals and an Audi Q7 lease can be currently be had for £611.99 per month including the VAT.

Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer

With its low running costs, comfortable ride, a 5 Star safety rating and plenty of space are some of the most important things you’d want in large family car, and these things all apply to the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer. Thanks to its decidedly stylish and funky looks it isn’t just desirable from a practical point of view either. With three second row ISOFIX points (although no third row ISOFIX) and the space for three large child seats, there’s no doubt that the big Citroen is worth the consideration. The Citroen Grand C4 becomes even more appealing with a PCH lease price starting from just £245.99 including VAT.

Volkswagen Sharan / SEAT Alhambra

Both the Volkswagen Sharan and SEAT Alhambra stem from the same factory in Portugal, sharing the same engine, mechanical components, the same 5 Star safety rating and only really part ways when it comes to the badge and interior. Likewise, both can also fit three ISOFIX child seats along the second row and to top it off, rearmost row too has ISOFIX points, in theory allowing for a grand total of five ISOFIX child seats across just two rows (that’s a lot of tot). When you count in them ever so practical sliding doors, the general refinement and fit and finish, it’d be difficult to not give this car hard consideration. The Volkswagen Sharan can be had on a personal lease from £393.59 while SEAT  Alhambra lease deals start from £349.19, both prices including VAT.

Volkswagen Touran

For those families who can deal with the slight compromise of forgoing the sliding doors and the slight decrease in outright spaciousness, the smaller and cheaper VW Touran might also be a great option. Don’t let the smaller size fool you, though. Just like its Sharan and Alhambra brothers it manages to easily fit three ISOFIX child seats along the second row, and even the third row can be optioned with more ISOFIX points if need be. With equally impressive space relative to its size and still top marks for build quality, leasing the Touran might mark even better value for money than the bigger VW group MPVs, with VW Touran lease deals starting at just £271.19 per month including VAT.

Ultimately there is no definitive answer to the question. What we can do is give a helping hand and this list should at least give you a good idea of where to start. If you want an MPV or people carrier capable of three ISOFIX seats fitting across one row, whilst your options aren’t extensive, they do exist in small numbers. Unfortunately, if SUVs are more your flavour, then you’re mostly limited to the expensive but desirable Audi Q7. We have plenty of the best personal leasing offers out there on a vast range of different cars in these categories, but as with anything, it’s important to ensure you do all the research and measuring up on the specific seats and cars in question before committing to a purchase.
